SAGGING SKIN
Our skin health is at the mercy of many forces as we mature and age; Factors like harsh weather, sun, and bad habits all contribute to our skin’s natural aging process. Technology has allowed us to reverse some of the signs of aging. Together with the guidance of a Skin Expert, your skin could look younger and healthier than ever before!
How your skin ages will depend on a variety of factors: your lifestyle, diet, heredity, and other personal habits. For instance, smoking can produce damaging free radicals. These are what were once healthy oxygen molecules that have now become overactive and unstable. Free radicals damage cells, leading to many side effects including wrinkles and fine lines.
Just because you don’t smoke, doesn’t mean you are fully protected. Primary factors contributing to wrinkled, spotted skin include normal aging, sun exposure (photo aging), pollution, and loss of subcutaneous support (fatty tissue between your skin and muscle).
And then aside from environmental factors, there are the things in life that we cannot always control. Other factors that contribute to aging of the skin include stress, gravity, daily facial movement, weight loss and weight gain, and even sleep position!
SUN DAMAGE
Over time, the sun's ultraviolet (UV) light damages certain fibers in the skin called elastin. The breakdown of these fibers causes skin damage and can result in skin that sags, droops, is discolored and/or doesn’t quite bounce back after it has been stretched. The skin also doesn’t heal as quickly and is more susceptible to bruising. Sun damage isn’t always visible in your younger years, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t there; It makes its appearance later in your skins natural aging process.
Although nothing can completely reverse or undo sun damage, there are many options that will heal the skin and repair some damage. Aside from treatments, the best thing you can do for your skin at-home is to protect yourself from the sun - no matter your age. Cover up, wear a hat, and always use an SPF daily.
Our Recommendations for Sun Damage: IPL Treatments, Chemical Peels, and Microdermabrasion.
LOSS OF COLLAGEN
During the aging process, the body begins to produce significantly less collagen. In fact, studies have shown that in the first five years of menopause, collagen production can be reduced by over 30 percent! This lack of collagen results in many of the common signs of aging; Wrinkles, sagging skin, and stiff joints are all signs that the body is producing less collagen.
Before aging, when collagen levels are plentiful, the skin is soft, smooth, and firm. Collagen is responsible for cell renewal and repairs as well as keeping the skin hydrated and plump. This is why collagen has made a name for itself in the beauty industry, especially in anti-aging skincare for many years.
Our Recommendations for Increasing Collagen: Bend Beauty Collagen Supplements, Microneedling (Collagen Induction Therapy), LED Red Light Therapy, Hyaluronic Acid, Chemical Peels.
