How Does LED Light Therapy Work?

How LED Light Therapy Works | DermaEnvy Skincare

Light is a form of energy composed of particles called photons. When specific wavelengths of light are directed onto the skin, these photons are absorbed by the cells, particularly within the mitochondria, which are the energy-producing structures of the cell. This absorption stimulates cellular activity and enhances the natural production of collagen and elastin, two key proteins responsible for maintaining skin firmness and elasticity.

In addition to promoting cellular regeneration, certain wavelengths such as blue light target and destroy Propionibacterium acnes, the bacteria responsible for acne. Red and near-infrared light help reduce inflammation and accelerate tissue repair by increasing circulation and supporting immune cell function. As a result, LED therapy can improve skin clarity, calm redness associated with rosacea, and support overall skin healing and resilience.

  • PRE-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS FOR LED THERAPY

    • Remove any makeup, cosmetics or creams pre-appointment.

    • Avoid treatment if taking photosensitive medications including Accutane for Acne.

    • Each LED light therapy session takes about 20 minutes at a time.

  • POST-TREATMENT CARE FOR LED LIGHT FACIAL

    • LED light therapy is noninvasive, so no recovery time is required. You should be able to continue with your everyday activities once your treatment is over.

    • LED light therapy requires up to 10 sessions or more to achieve best results, each spaced out about a week apart. You may start to see minor results after your first session. Results will be more dramatic and noticeable once you’ve finished all of your treatments.

    • Even after you’ve achieved the recommended number of sessions, your results aren’t permanent. As your skin cells turn over, you may lose some collagen and start to see signs of aging again. You may also start to see acne breakouts. We recommend maintenance treatment two/three times per year to maintain results.

Benefits and Results of LED Light Therapy for Skin

LED Light Therapy Benefits and Results | DermaEnvy Skincare

Immediate effects of LED light therapy include a noticeable reduction in the appearance of enlarged pores, fine lines, and wrinkles. The treatment enhances microcirculation, improving oxygen and nutrient delivery to skin cells, which promotes a healthier and more radiant complexion.

With a consistent treatment protocol, patients experience progressive improvements in skin rejuvenation. LED therapy stimulates cellular repair mechanisms and supports increased synthesis of collagen and elastin, which are key structural proteins responsible for skin elasticity and firmness. Over time, this results in improved skin texture, enhanced firmness, and a more youthful appearance.

Clinical outcomes continue to improve with ongoing sessions. To optimize and maintain results, a structured treatment plan is recommended. This typically includes multiple LED therapy sessions, a personalized skincare regimen, and regular professional facials.
